100 million dollars to be allocated over 10 years “to various organizations across the country who are fighting for the achievement of racial equality, social justice and wider access to education”. So Michael Jordan – through the brand that bears his own name – chose to make a clear decision on the debate that returned to inflame America after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis: “Black Lives Matter is not a statement controversial,” reads the joint press release that expresses the personal opinion of the former No. 23 of the Bulls and that of his brand.

“As long as the racism that lurks in the institutions of this country – preventing their correct functioning – is not eradicated, we will continue to work to protect and improve the living conditions of black people.” An association – the one between Jordan and the African American community – has never been so strongly reiterated: “Jordan Brand is us, the colored community – reads the first line of the press release – more than a single man: a family.”

MJ hasn’t hidden his unease about the recent Minneapolis facts: “We can’t accept this anymore, [the death of George Floyd] is the point of no return. We must take a strong position, we must improve as a society when it comes to racial issues.”
