The Philadelphia 76ers prevailed 120-106 on the road in Game 7 after the Boston Celtics had won consecutive games while facing elimination.

Julius Erving finished with 29 points, three steals and three blocks for Philadelphia. Andrew Toney had 34 points and Maurice Cheeks finished with 19 points and 11 assists.

Larry Bird had 20 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks but his excellent performance wasn’t enough.

The Sixers only led by three at the half but extended their lead to double figures in the third quarter and never looked back.

With the game out of reach, fans at the Boston Garden started chanting “Beat LA.”

The fans did not get their wish as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the 76ers in six games to win the 1982 NBA Finals.
