Real Madrid’s Sergio Rodriguez has been named as the Euroleague’s Most Valuable Player for the 2013-14 season.

Rodriguez was named this season’s MVP ahead of his favoured team-mate Rudy Fernandez in-front of a packed fanzone at the Piazza del Duomo in the center of Milan.

The 27-year-old was also named in the Euroleague first team alongside Fernandez, EA7 Milano’s Keith Langford, CSKA Moscow’s Sonny Weems and Barcelona’s Ante Tomic.

The Spanish international guard’s accomplishment has been made even more impressive as he has not started in any of Real Madrid’s 29 games this season.  And despite Rodriguez’s role with the Liga Endesa leaders, he has led the team with 13.5 points a game along with 5 assists.

“It’s an honour for me to receive this accolade, with these players and my teammates at Real Madrid,” Rodriguez said.

“We have been playing together for a long time and that has really helped us do what we’ve done and we’re really focused on getting the Euroleague title.”
