Barcelona handed Olympiacos its second straight loss in the Euroleague with an 81-72 win at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

Olympiacos’ 10-game winning home record comes to an end as they fall to 1-2 in Group E while on the contrary, Barca have won their 15th straight Top 16 encounter as they move to 3-0 in the group.

Juan Carlos Navarro led the winners with 21 points on what could be an important result later on in the group.

“We are very happy to beat Olympiacos on the road in a very competitive game.,” stated Barcelona coach Xavi Pascual. “The key was that we put our tempo on the court and especially in the second half we played better. We have several new players, this is the reason we have not had stability so far, but as the time goes by, we grew up.”

Georgios Printezis and Vassilis Spanoulis each had 17 to lead the Euroleague champions.

On his return to Olympiacos, Kostas Papanikolaou only managed 2 points.

Lokomotiv Kuban came from behind to beat Galatasaray on the road 63-62 for their first win in Group F.

A Mantas Kalnietis triple with four seconds remaining was enough for the Russians. Carlos Arroyo had the chance to win it at the buzzer for the hosts but his tough mid-range jumper was off the mark.

Derrick Brown led the visitors with 16 points, Kalnietis supported with 13.

Arroyo led Galatasaray with a game-high 19 points.

The other game in Group F saw Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv score an important road win as they beat Zalgiris 87-78.

Tyrese Rice led Maccabi, who are now 3-0 with 20 points and Yogev Ohayon notched a double-double of 10 points and 11 assists, the latter being tied for a Euroleague record.

Paulius Jankunas and Justin Dentmon both led Zalgiris with 21 points, the latter dished out 10 assists. The Lithuanian champions though drop to 0-3.

“We had better minutes and less good minutes in the game, but the second half – and in particular the fourth quarter – just like against Galatasaray and Kuban, was excellent,” Maccabi coach David Blatt said. “That shows that we have improved in certain parameters that we were less good in at the beginning of the season.”
