With LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball’s contracts with Vytautas due to expire at the end of the season, one Lithuanian journalist who has followed their journey since their arrival in January wouldn’t be surprised if they re-sign for next season.
Donatas Urbonas, who writes for Lithuanian basketball outlet 15min.lt has praised the brothers for how they’ve coped with the high-level of the LKL and more importantly, how they both have adjusted to the style of basketball, which is considerably different to what they are used to in the States.
LiAngelo led Vytautas with 18 points in a narrow loss on Saturday to Lietuvos Rytas and while LaMelo is out injured, he has impressed after a rough start. Urbonas, who has covered both Ball brothers since they arrived at Vilnius Airport believes that the two youngsters might even stay beyond this season.
“The best thing is that they’re getting really good experience from this level,” Urbonas said.
“Their opponents always trying to play hard against them with some extra motivation. So they always push them to their limits. But their journey is unpredictable. I wouldn’t be surprised if they say in Prienai next season.”
Despite promising performances, Vytautas remains bottom of the LKL table with a 5-19 record.
