Worcester Wolves became the third team to advance to the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy with an 86-82 victory over Surrey Scorchers in Guildford.

Paul James’ side held off a late rally from the Scorchers to set up a last four showdown with Plymouth Raiders.

Alejandro Navajas top scored with 19 points, while Maurice Walker posted 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

“It was a hard fought game from both sides, it was a very physical game and we knew it would be coming into their arena,” said Wolves’ Jermel Kennedy.

“We stayed focused and played it out to the very end and now we have put ourselves in a good position to move forward.”

Surrey’s late rally ultimately came to nothing as Worcester Wolves advanced to the BBL Trophy semi-finals.

The Wolves had seen their three-game win streak in the league come to an end on Friday when Mike Tuck helped lead Sheffield Sharks to a 79-77 home win.

Meanwhile, Leicester Riders impressed with a 94-74 victory against Glasgow Rocks with Brandon Clark posting 30 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Newcastle Eagles returned to winning ways to keep the pressure on the league leaders with a 92-81 success over Surrey Scorchers with Orlan Jackman contributing 20 points and 11 rebounds.

London Lions were involved in a shootout in Devon but eventually earned a 107-101 triumph against the Plymouth Raiders as Rashad Hassan and Alex Owumi combined for 51 points with Daryl Corletto’s 28-point haul in vain for the Raiders.

Also, Bristol Flyers secured an 101-83 victory away at Leeds Force as they pulled clear for their eighth league win of the season as Hameed Ali netted 24 points.

Manchester Giants ended a run of 12 straight league defeats as they claimed a 78-68 win over Cheshire Phoenix having led by as many as 26 at one stage.
