The NBA has reportedly submitted a formal proposal to EuroLeague regarding a potential partnership between the two basketball organizations, according to multiple sources cited by Eurohoops.
Specific terms of the proposal have not been disclosed. EuroLeague management and its clubs/shareholders are expected to review the offer internally ahead of the owners’ scheduled meeting in Italy on October 5.
The development comes as the NBA continues working toward establishing its own European competition.
Although the league has yet to officially announce any NBA Europe franchises, plans reportedly remain in place for the new competition to begin next season.
EuroLeague is also preparing for significant expansion.
The competition could grow to 24 teams, with eight new franchises joining the existing 13 clubs/shareholders, which are themselves in the process of transitioning into franchises.
Neither the NBA nor EuroLeague commented on the reported proposal.
However, communication between the two organizations has continued as both consider their respective plans for the future of professional basketball in Europe.
A combined competition remains one possible direction.
EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno and NBA commissioner Adam Silver have previously discussed the possibility of cooperation between the organizations, though it remains unclear whether the latest proposal can lead to an agreement.
