The Brooklyn Nets are bringing back forward Chaney Johnson after the 24-year-old agreed to sign his two-way qualifying offer, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Johnson appeared in 17 games for Brooklyn during the 2025-26 season, averaging 8.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 20.5 minutes per game. He shot 54.3% from the field, 30.0% from three-point range and 80.0% from the free-throw line while earning one start.
The forward made an efficient impact in limited minutes, posting a .590 effective field goal percentage and averaging 3.0 made field goals on only 5.5 attempts per game. His interior scoring was a major part of his production, as he converted 65.6% of his two-point attempts while also providing occasional spacing with 1.8 three-point attempts per game.
Johnson’s return comes as Brooklyn continues reshaping its roster after a 20-62 finish in the 2025-26 season. The Nets entered the offseason with one of the league’s youngest groups and added veteran forward Julius Randle in a three-team trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves before the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Randle acquisition brought a proven offensive centerpiece to Brooklyn, while the Nets also selected guard Mikel Brown Jr. with the No. 6 overall pick. Brooklyn added forward Joshua Jefferson at No. 28 after acquiring the pick from Minnesota, continuing its effort to build around younger players while adding experienced talent.
With Nic Claxton traded to the Chicago Bulls in the Randle deal, Brooklyn’s frontcourt rotation changed significantly. Noah Clowney led the Nets with 12.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 2025-26, while Day’Ron Sharpe averaged 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in 18.7 minutes.
