The Orlando Magic have been hit with a $25,000 fine for violating the NBA’s injury reporting rules, the league announced in a press release (Twitter link).

The issue stemmed from Monday, when Orlando initially listed guard Anthony Black as “out” with a left lateral abdominal strain that had kept him sidelined for 16 straight games.

However, his status changed multiple times throughout the day during a back-to-back set.

After being listed as out in the early afternoon report, Black was later upgraded to questionable, then to probable, and eventually cleared to play by the evening.

It appears the situation could have been avoided if he had been listed as doubtful instead of out from the start.

According to the NBA, the team “failed to accurately disclose” his availability for the game.
