The NBA had just two coaching changes during the 2025 offseason, but there’s increasing belief that many more could be coming soon.
“There’s going to be 8 to 12 [changes],” one league source familiar with the coaching market told Jake Fischer.
Last season also featured late surprises, with the Memphis Grizzlies firing Taylor Jenkins and the Denver Nuggets parting ways with Michael Malone right before the playoffs.
Their interim replacements, Tuomas Iisalo and David Adelman, were eventually retained, as were Doug Christie with the Sacramento Kings and Mitch Johnson with the San Antonio Spurs.
That left the New York Knicks hiring Mike Brown for Tom Thibodeau and the Phoenix Suns replacing Mike Budenholzer with Jordan Ott as the only true offseason changes.
The New Orleans Pelicans also made an in-season move, firing Willie Green, with James Borrego stepping in as interim. Tiago Splitter has also served as interim while Chauncey Billups has been away following a federal gambling investigation.
Other situations remain uncertain, including Doc Rivers potentially leaving the Milwaukee Bucks, Jamahl Mosley’s future with the Orlando Magic after a disappointing year, and Steve Kerr entering the offseason without a deal for 2026-27 with the Golden State Warriors.
