The Milwaukee Bucks’ choice to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo out late in the season didn’t just impact the team on the court – it also affected him financially.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Antetokounmpo missed out on a significant bonus in his Nike endorsement deal, which required him to appear in at least 41 games.

He ended the season having played just 36 games, the lowest total of his career. Injuries played a major role, as he dealt with five separate issues throughout the year.

After hyperextending his left knee on March 15 against the Indiana Pacers, the team ultimately decided to shut him down for the remainder of the season.

That decision proved costly beyond basketball, as it prevented him from reaching the appearance threshold tied to his endorsement incentives, adding another layer to an already frustrating season.
