Jaylen Brown delivered a dominant scoring performance Wednesday night, finishing with 43 points as the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 147-129 at Kaseya Center.
Boston set the tone early with a historic opening quarter, scoring 53 points to establish control of the game. The total set a franchise record and tied the second-highest scoring first quarter in NBA history.
The Celtics improved to 51-25 and maintained the No. 2 position in the Eastern Conference standings. Boston trails the Detroit Pistons by four games for the conference lead.
Brown led the offense with efficient scoring throughout the night. The All-Star guard shot 17-of-29 from the field and added seven assists while helping Boston generate consistent half-court and transition opportunities.
Jayson Tatum recorded his first triple-double of the season, finishing with 25 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists. The forward controlled the glass and facilitated the offense as the Celtics produced 34 assists on 56 made field goals.
Sam Hauser added 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including five three-pointers. Boston shot 58 percent from the field and connected on 21 of its 44 attempts from beyond the arc.
The decisive stretch came late in the first quarter. After falling behind by one point, Boston closed the period on a 24-3 run that turned a tight game into a 20-point advantage in just over four minutes.
The Celtics carried that momentum into halftime with an 80-57 lead. Boston then scored the first four points of the third quarter to push the margin to 27.
Miami responded in the second half and trimmed the deficit to nine early in the fourth quarter. Boston answered with timely scoring to prevent the Heat from mounting a full comeback.
Bam Adebayo led Miami with 29 points and 10 rebounds while stretching the floor with five three-pointers. The Heat matched a franchise record by hitting 24 three-pointers, a mark the team has reached three previous times.
Davion Mitchell added 21 points and seven assists. Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson each finished with 18 points, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
Despite the offensive production, Miami struggled defensively during Boston’s early surge. The Heat fell to 40-37 but remained in the No. 10 spot in the Eastern Conference play-in race.
Miami sits a half-game behind both Orlando and Charlotte, which entered the night tied at 40-36.
Boston also continued a consistent trend this season. The Celtics are now 31-0 when scoring at least 117 points and have won 10 of their last 11 games following a loss.
The Celtics travel to Milwaukee on Friday night for their next game. Miami returns home Saturday to face Washington.
