Former Warriors president Bob Myers has emerged as a leading candidate in the Mavericks’ search for a new head of basketball operations, league sources say.
Myers currently works as president of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, overseeing advisory roles across multiple franchises.
Since leaving Golden State in 2023, he has declined interest from several teams, including Phoenix and Atlanta, with his current role playing a key part in that decision.
Mavericks CEO Rick Welts, who worked with Myers during the Warriors’ title runs, is seen as a strong supporter.
Dallas is casting a wide net, with big names like Sam Presti, R.C. Buford, and Brad Stevens mentioned, though the team recognizes those options are unlikely.
Tim Connelly is also of interest if he leaves Minnesota, while Masai Ujiri remains a notable available candidate despite his recent involvement with the WNBA’s Toronto Tempo.
Co-interim GMs Matt Riccardi and Michael Finley are expected to be considered as well. The search isn’t likely to formally begin until after the regular season ends April 12.
“It’s the most important decision that the organization is going to make for the coming seasons,” Welts said Tuesday. “We are going to take our time and get it right.”
While Dallas has a franchise cornerstone in Cooper Flagg, it lacks control of its draft picks from 2027–30. A potential top-four pick this year could help strengthen its long-term outlook.
