Valencia Basket confirmed on Wednesday that head coach Pedro Martinez has signed a one-year extension, keeping him at the club through the 2027-28 season. The 64-year-old returned to Las Taronjas in 2024 and has guided the team to a 21-12 record in the EuroLeague, sitting fourth after 33 games.

Martinez previously led Valencia from 2015 to 2017, compiling a 31-8 EuroCup record and earning EuroCup Coach of the Year honors in 2016-17. That season, he also steered the team to its first Spanish League title.

Valencia reached the EuroCup Semifinals last season under Martinez and currently ranks among the EuroLeague’s top teams. With a 21-12 record, Las Taronjas are level with Real Madrid but hold a slightly lower point differential.

Martinez’s coaching career spans more than three decades, beginning as an assistant at Joventut Badalona in 1989. He has since led multiple Spanish clubs, including Manresa, Gran Canaria, Baskonia, and Estudiantes, returning to several of them for multiple stints before rejoining Valencia in 2024.

The veteran tactician has been credited for his ability to blend experienced players with emerging talent, emphasizing team cohesion and adaptability. Under his guidance, Valencia has become a consistent playoff contender in both domestic and European competitions.
