Cunningham, 24, has been central to Detroit’s success this season, averaging 24.5 points, 9.9 assists, and 5.6 rebounds over 61 games. His absence comes as the Pistons hold a 49-19 record, the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
A collapsed lung, or pneumothorax, occurs when air enters the space between the lung and chest wall, causing the lung to partially or fully deflate. In basketball, this injury can severely limit breathing, stamina, and physical contact, making competitive play unsafe until fully healed.
