Denver Nuggets forward Cameron Johnson says he is still adjusting in his first season with the team.
According to Bennett Durando of The Denver Post, the transition hasn’t been completely smooth as the regular season enters its final month.
Johnson noted that there is “still an element of figuring it out” as he continues to settle into his role in Denver’s system.
Recently, the forward has shown some positive momentum, scoring at least 15 points in three straight games for only the second time this season.
Johnson said the coaching staff has been encouraging him to play with more decisiveness rather than overthinking situations on the floor.
Head coach David Adelman echoed that message, explaining that Johnson sometimes tries to overcomplicate plays instead of taking the straightforward option available to him.
“I think sometimes, he’s trying to make perfect plays, instead of just making the play that is right there in front of you (that) is the right decision,” Adelman said.
Looking ahead, Johnson will become eligible for a contract extension this summer.
He is entering the final season of his current deal, which will pay him $23.1 million in 2026/27.
Johnson has played 7 seasons for the Suns, Nets, and Nuggets. He has averaged 12.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 382 regular-season games.
Keyonte George will have to return to play next Saturday and not miss another Jazz game to be eligible for end-of-season awards. Story: https://t.co/A5CfsiIi5G
