The Utah Jazz defeated the Washington Wizards 122-112 to spoil Trae Young’s debut with his new team on Thursday night.
Ace Bailey led the Jazz with a career-high 32 points, while Young had 12 points and six assists with just 19 minutes on his Wizards debut.
Young was traded from Atlanta to Washington in January, sidelined by knee and quadriceps injuries, and placed on a minutes restriction.
Juju Reese had 18 points and 20 rebounds for Washington, but not enough to end their seven-game skid.
The Jazz snapped a seven-game skid of its own.
Bailey was taken by the Jazz with the fifth pick in last year’s draft, one spot ahead of where the Wizards picked.
Despite Young’s appearance in the starting lineup, the Wizards trailed by 14 after one quarter.
Wizards’ Tre Johnson missed a breakaway dunk in the second, and although Young provided his share of highlights, they could not come all the way back.
Washington entered the game with the NBA’s fourth-worst record, 1 ½ games behind the Jazz. They could lose their first-round pick this year if it falls out of the top eight.
Reese became the Wizards’ first rookie to grab 20 rebounds since Tom Gugliotta in 1993.
Both teams will play road games in their next matchup: the Jazz visit Milwaukee on Saturday, while the Wizards visit New Orleans on Sunday.
