Nique Clifford led the Sacramento Kings with 26 points in Sunday’s 128-104 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers but noted the team struggled early. “Taking care of the ball was an issue tonight for us… led to easy baskets for them getting in transition,” he said, referencing the first-quarter deficit that set the tone.

On his individual development, Clifford highlighted progress in decision-making and attacking the rim. “Just trying to simplify… make the easiest read whether that’s a play for myself to score or a play for my teammate… just being aggressive and attacking downhill,” he said.

Clifford praised his chemistry with Maxime Raynaud, emphasizing their coordination on the court. “Getting to play with him since summer league… I can kind of tell what he wants to get to and it’s easy to play with that when you have that chemistry. Max is a hell of a player and fun to play with,” Clifford said.

Facing superstars remains a surreal experience for the Kings’ guard. “It’s crazy… LeBron was in the league before I was born probably… to be on the same floor, I feel like I belong, but it’s still pretty dope to be out there with guys of that category,” he said.

Clifford reflected on what he has learned guarding elite talent. “Just the simplicity of their game… they get to their spots, make the right plays, the right read almost every time… seeing how consistent they are with their routines, with their play every single night… going against guys like that has helped me learn and grow,” he said.

He also recognized the leadership around him on a challenging season. “I’m around a lot of great dudes… Hall of Fame players… super grateful and blessed to be a part of that. They’ve taught me a lot and helped me grow as a player over the course of this season,” Clifford said.

Despite the loss, Clifford’s performance and reflections underscore his development in the Kings’ offense and pick-and-roll sets. His understanding of timing and aggression complements his partnership with Raynaud and demonstrates a growing basketball IQ even against high-level opponents like Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

The Lakers completed a back-to-back sweep after Saturday’s win in Golden State, led by Doncic’s 28 points and nine assists and James’ 24 points with two highlight dunks. Sacramento now sits 14-48, having lost 18 of their last 20 games.
