Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to make progress in his recovery process, participating in a pregame workout ahead of Sunday’s matchup against Toronto, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic (Twitter video link).
The former MVP has been sidelined since January 23 while recovering from a right calf strain, but recent activity suggests he is moving closer to a return.
Head coach Doc Rivers shared that Antetokounmpo has begun increasing his on-court workload, including taking part in scrimmage situations during Saturday’s practice.
However, he has not yet advanced to full 5-on-5 action, indicating the team is still taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation.
“We were in the gym and did some 3-on-3 stuff. 4-on-4 and 3-on-3, I think, live. That was good,” Rivers said.
Antetokounmpo has played 13 seasons for the Bucks. He has averaged 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 889 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 9 All-Star games.
He has won 1 Most Improved Player award, 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, 2 MVP awards, 1 Finals MVP award and 1 NBA championship.
