During his post-deadline press conference, Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. firmly denied speculation that Draymond Green was part of any serious trade discussions.
Addressing the rumors, Dunleavy made it clear that Green’s future with the franchise was never in doubt.
“His name was not in conversations other than the ones where teams called me to ask about him,” he said, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.
“The idea that he ‘stayed with the Warriors past the deadline’ was greatly exaggerated. It was never a possibility of him not being here or remotely close.”
Despite Dunleavy’s firm stance, several reporters, along with Green himself, have indicated that the veteran forward likely would have been included in a potential blockbuster offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
That contrast suggests Dunleavy’s remarks may stem from the belief that talks involving Antetokounmpo never advanced to a serious stage, making any discussion of Green’s departure purely hypothetical rather than realistic.
