James Borrego on Bryce McGowens: “He’s ready for the moment”

New Orleans Pelicans interim head coach James Borrego applauded the work ethic/versatility of two-way guard Bryce McGowens after Friday’s 119-115 road win vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves (11 points/1 rebound/4 assists/zero turnovers/1 block/4-6 FG/2-3 3-PT/1-2 FT/+2 +/- in 28 minutes off the bench).

“We’ve seen the work behind the scenes. Every day he’s working. He’s playing in the conditioning league, getting his workouts in. He’s ready for the moment. We could’ve gone to him early in the last couple weeks, but I think this is his moment, his time now. Hopefully he’ll get converted, but he was fantastic. His poise. His aggression. His confidence. He made a couple huge shots for us to give us the lead, to give us a little bit of a cushion. He belongs out there. I thought he did a good job on Ant [Edwards], too, guarding. He’s a two-way player. We need to build two-way players. He’s one of those guys that can play both sides of the ball.”
