The veteran forward controlled the game’s tempo with efficient midrange scoring and steady decision-making, finishing 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. Leonard’s all-around production helped the Clippers stay composed late after trailing 49-48 at halftime.
Los Angeles found separation midway through the fourth quarter when Brook Lopez hit a three-pointer with 9:50 remaining to give the visitors an 86-84 lead, a margin they never surrendered. Lopez finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, providing rim protection that disrupted Sacramento’s interior attempts.
John Collins added 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Kris Dunn contributed 15 points and five assists, helping the Clippers maintain offensive balance despite missing newly acquired guard Darius Garland due to a sprained right big toe. The Clippers shot 52 percent from the field and converted 31 free throws, a key factor in a tight finish.
Sacramento leaned on bench production, with Malik Monk scoring 18 points and Nique Clifford adding 16, but struggled from three-point range at 10-for-37. Dylan Cardwell posted 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Devin Carter added 14, yet the Kings’ starting unit failed to generate consistent spacing against Los Angeles’ switching defense.
De’Andre Hunter, recently acquired from Cleveland, scored six points in his second appearance with Sacramento as the team continued adjusting to roster changes. The home side attempted 92 shots but managed just 45 percent shooting overall, reflecting difficulties creating high-efficiency looks late in the clock.
Leonard’s defensive presence also played a role in closing possessions, as the Clippers recorded seven blocks and limited Sacramento’s second-chance scoring despite a close rebounding margin. Derrick Jones Jr. added 13 points and provided perimeter defense that helped slow the Kings’ transition game.
The win lifted Los Angeles to 24-27, keeping it in the play-in race in a crowded Western Conference middle tier. Sacramento has not won since Jan. 16 and will attempt to break its skid when it hosts Cleveland on Saturday night, while the Clippers continue their road trip Sunday in Minnesota.
