Victor Wembanyama delivered 39 points and nine rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs narrowly held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 126-123 Saturday at Frost Bank Center.

Reflecting on the game, Wembanyama acknowledged the team’s second-half lapse. “Yeah, I agree…we’ve got to know where to get to,” he said about the Spurs’ nonchalant start to the third quarter.

He emphasized the importance of finishing strong. “It’s just got to get a win no matter what…we definitely got the talent to do that,” Wembanyama said.

The young star noted the contagious energy during the Spurs’ scoring runs. “When everybody is participating in it, it is contagious,” he said, highlighting the impact of team momentum.

Wembanyama also spoke on matching Anthony Edwards in a back-and-forth fourth quarter. “It’s an honor…the best players going as hard as they can makes us better. It makes me better,” he said.

Despite a missed free throw in the closing seconds, he remained focused on the outcome. “The most important thing…is that we got the win. That’s what we’re going to remember,” Wembanyama said.

He described the win as nuanced but meaningful. “It’s a lot we have to correct, but it’s still a win,” he said, acknowledging the Timberwolves’ strong effort despite missing some starters.

Wembanyama discussed the balance between individual recognition and team identity. “It’s a good thing to be grounded…if we want to last in this league we can’t play a role for 15–20 years,” he said.

He also joked about Edwards trying to dunk on him in the future. “I’ll try to block him more than he dunks on me,” Wembanyama said.

The Spurs overcame Minnesota’s late surge, including Edwards’ 55-point game, with De’Aaron Fox adding 25 points and 12 assists, and Keldon Johnson contributing 20 off the bench. Wembanyama capped the win by securing a critical offensive rebound in the final moments.

With the victory, San Antonio improved to 28-13, tied for second in the Western Conference, while Minnesota dropped to 27-15, remaining fourth. The Spurs host the Jazz Monday, and the Timberwolves travel to Utah Tuesday.
