Head coach Steve Kerr downplayed any potential fallout from Jonathan Kuminga’s trade request, making it clear that the situation is not expected to disrupt the Golden State Warriors as they continue their season.
Speaking before Thursday’s matchup against the New York Knicks, Kerr emphasized that the locker room remains steady and that Kuminga has continued to conduct himself professionally despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.
“It won’t be a distraction,” the coach said. “Jonathan’s a great young guy. His teammates like him. He’s handling himself well. There won’t be a distraction.”
Kerr acknowledged that he had already spoken directly with Kuminga earlier in the day, but he avoided going into detail about the broader implications of the request.
Instead, he framed the situation as an unfortunate but familiar part of life in the NBA, one that teams and players are often forced to navigate.
“There’s not a whole lot I can say about the other stuff,” Kerr said. “It is what it is. Difficult situation for everybody. Part of this league, part of this job. We just keep moving forward. But it’s a tough situation and I don’t really have much to add.”
