Jamal Murray highlighted the team effort behind Denver’s 106-103 victory over Toronto on Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena. “We did enough. I could be a lot better, but it was just fun to play home and see my friends and family,” Murray said.

Murray described the decisive lob play late in the game as flawless execution. “Executed flawlessly then. You like that, huh?” he added, emphasizing the trust and timing required in critical moments.

With multiple starters sidelined, including Nikola Jokic, Murray stressed team cohesion. “We just keep doing what we’re doing… play fast, play aggressive on defense, gang rebound… we got to come together and do all the little things,” he said.

The Nuggets guard also discussed handling opposing pressure. “Just staying aggressive, staying composed… even if I’m being face-guarded, that means my guy can’t help. So cuts and stuff are behind that and layups are there,” he explained.

Playing in front of his hometown crowd carried added significance. “It’s always fun… a lot of friends and family here… it’s a blessing to have the opportunity to play in front of my peoples back home on New Year’s,” Murray said.

Murray addressed his individual shooting performance, reflecting on his continued growth. “All-Star players… shooting at a ridiculous rate…,” he said, adding that he would consider taking part in the Three-Point Contest.

He also acknowledged fellow Kitchener, Ontario, native Will Riley of the Wizards. “I still haven’t seen him play… looking forward to playing against him and having that kind of connection… it speaks a lot to his work ethic,” Murray said.

Denver overcame the absence of Jokic, along with Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, and Cam Johnson. Peyton Watson led the team with 24 points, while Murray added 21. Backup center Jonas Valanciunas contributed 17 points and nine rebounds before leaving with a strained calf.

The Raptors nearly forced overtime after Brandon Ingram banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer, but a review showed the ball was still on his fingers when time expired. Toronto was led by Ingram’s 30 points and Scottie Barnes’ 20-point triple-double.

The Nuggets will visit Cleveland on Friday, while Toronto hosts Atlanta on Saturday, both teams adjusting to injuries and lineup challenges as the season continues.
