The Grizzlies announced that John Konchar has successfully undergone surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, an injury he suffered on December 7 against Portland.
Konchar was able to finish that game, recording two points, three rebounds and three steals in 17 minutes during a lopsided Memphis win. The team said he’s expected to make a full recovery and will be reevaluated in about three weeks.
Memphis first revealed on December 11 that Konchar would need the procedure but did not provide a clear return timetable beyond noting he would miss at least three weeks.
The 29-year-old has played a limited role this season, averaging 3.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 22 games, though he remains valued for his decision-making, defense and strong on-off impact.
An undrafted player who has spent his entire career with the Grizzlies, Konchar is earning roughly $6.2 million this season.
His injury adds to a growing list of absences for Memphis, which has already been without several rotation players for extended stretches this year.
