Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic expressed relief and excitement after Monday’s 106-96 road victory over the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center. “Glory to the God. Thank you, God. We needed that,” Rajakovic said, highlighting the importance of snapping Toronto’s four-game losing streak.
He praised his team’s defensive performance, noting that preparation and attention to detail made the difference. “Our defense overall was really, really good… when we play to that standard, it is very rewarding when you get a win at the end of the day,” he said.
Rajakovic emphasized the role of the Raptors’ second unit in the win. “Seeing contributions from Grady, Collin Murray-Boyles defensively, Sandro… Jamal stepping on the court every single time, he changed the game,” he explained, highlighting Jamal Shead’s +27 impact.
The coach singled out Scottie Barnes for his clutch play. “The way he looks at the end of the game, his force, execution, smarts… he just plays to win,” Rajakovic said, pointing to Barnes’ ability to affect both ends of the floor.
Toronto’s offensive strategy drew praise from Rajakovic, who noted the team’s ball movement and shot selection. “It’s very important that we move the ball, touch the paint, find extra passes… that’s the brand of basketball we have to play,” he said, reflecting on the team’s 16 made three-pointers.
Brandon Ingram’s performance also earned recognition. “He is very consistent… getting to his spots, five assists, five rebounds, shot the ball well, played defense, really engaged,” Rajakovic noted, underlining Ingram’s leadership in the decisive fourth-quarter run.
Jamal Shead play impressed Rajakovic as well. “Jamal is a true point guard… he just thinks how to make the best play every single time down the court. It is a luxury for us to have a player like that playing for one goal, and that goal being winning,” he said.
Rajakovic highlighted the collective effort, stressing that success requires contributions from every player. “We’re not going to win if you have three guys playing good basketball… we need everybody to play to the level they’re capable of,” he said, reflecting on Toronto’s balanced scoring and 33 assists.
Toronto will continue its road trip Thursday night against the Milwaukee Bucks, aiming to build on the momentum from this win.
