Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott credited his team’s collective effort after a 108-105 road win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.
“Everyone that came in the game contributed… that start of the fourth quarter really helped us put us in a good spot,” Ott said, highlighting the importance of balanced production in a close contest.
Six Suns players reached double figures in scoring, led by Mark Williams with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Collin Gillespie added 19 points and three triples. Ott noted that bench contributions, particularly from Jamaree Bouyea, provided crucial minutes and defensive energy. “That group really helped us to start the fourth… whoever laces them up goes out and plays as hard as you can play,” he said.
Phoenix capitalized on Minnesota turnovers for 24 points, a trend Ott described as a growing strength. “It’s becoming something that we do every night… we want to put as much pressure on the basketball as possible,” he explained, emphasizing the team’s defensive activity against elite drivers like Anthony Edwards.
Ott also praised Gillespie’s late-game execution. “We want the ball in his hands… those free throws, the pass from Royce in a tight space, shows the amount of trust that his teammates have in him,” Ott said.
Dillon Brooks played despite dealing with Achilles concerns, demonstrating the Suns’ depth and resilience. “He gave everything he could… his fire and grit every single night is something unique in the NBA,” Ott said.
The coach highlighted a critical defensive possession late in the game when Minnesota had eight seconds and a chance for a three-pointer. “Our guys are scrambling, trying to make that one more effort… that was a big possession,” Ott said.
Phoenix now improves to 14-10, while Minnesota drops to 15-9 after ending a five-game winning streak. The Suns will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in Wednesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinals, and the Timberwolves travel to San Francisco to take on the Golden State Warriors.
