Paul George emphasized recovery and consistency in a postgame interview following Philadelphia 76ers’ 121–102 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, December 2.
“It’s getting there. I just got to get my legs a little bit under me. Get a little stronger,” George said, describing the early-season adjustments after missing significant time due to injury.
The veteran forward compared his current condition to training camp, noting the need to regain strength and endurance. “Kind of feel the training camp legs a little bit. This is my training camp first couple games,” he explained, stressing that accumulating game reps is central to his recovery.
George outlined his approach to daily preparation, balancing off-day recovery with game-day routines. “Off days, you know, taking care of my body, getting shots. Game days, getting into a rhythm, getting into the flow, finding what my game-day regimen is here,” he said, highlighting the methodical process of returning to peak form.
The 76ers are navigating frontcourt uncertainties, with Joel Embiid sidelined and Andre Drummond listed as questionable. George has played five games this season, averaging 14.0 points while shooting 41.4% from the field. Despite limited action, he is pleased with stringing games together and regaining confidence on the court.
George is also taking an active role mentoring younger players, including Adem Bona. “We missed an easy two… I just let them know where I see them and I’m looking for that,” he said, detailing how he guides teammates in positioning and decision-making during live games.
Jabari Walker’s contributions off the bench also drew praise. “He’s just a bully. So physical, so strong… does a little bit of everything. He’s that tough enforcer,” George said, pointing to the forward’s versatility and impact on both ends of the floor.
Regarding the team’s progress, George remains optimistic about the 76ers’ trajectory. “Despite injuries and guys in and out, we should have some consistency with health… we got a nice break coming up. Hopefully, we’ll come out of that training upward,” he said.
Philadelphia enters the game 11–9 on the season, aiming to stabilize rotations and build chemistry in Embiid’s absence. Tyrese Maxey continues to lead the offense, averaging 32.3 points and 7.6 assists per game, while George focuses on regaining strength and providing leadership both on and off the court.
