The Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons will both be missing important contributors when they face off Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Utah, sitting at 3–4 after an upset win over Boston, will again be without starting center Walker Kessler. The big man remains sidelined due to left shoulder bursitis. His absence leaves Jusuf Nurkic as the primary interior presence, averaging 7.6 points and 8.3 rebounds across seven contests.

Forward Georges Niang is also unavailable because of a left foot stress reaction. With Niang sidelined, Kyle Filipowski and veteran Kyle Anderson are expected to see increased minutes at the forward spots.

Two-way players John Tonje and Oscar Tshiebwe remain in the G League, leaving head coach Will Hardy with a shortened rotation for the second straight game. Lauri Markkanen and Keyonte George will continue to lead the offense. Markkanen is averaging 31.1 points and 7.0 rebounds, while George has emerged as the team’s lead facilitator at 8.1 assists per game.

The Pistons, meanwhile, enter the matchup with a 5–2 record and one of the hottest starts in the Eastern Conference. Detroit’s success has been fueled by Cade Cunningham’s all-around play — he is averaging 23.6 points and 9.6 assists through seven outings.

However, Detroit will be without forward Tobias Harris, who is nursing a right ankle sprain. Harris has averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season.

Guard Jaden Ivey remains sidelined following right knee arthroscopy, while Marcus Sasser is out with a right hip impingement. Without that trio, head coach JB Bickerstaff has leaned heavily on Ausar Thompson and veteran Duncan Robinson to space the floor.

The matchup could come down to rebounding and paint play. Jalen Duren is averaging nearly a double-double for Detroit at 17.3 points and 9.9 boards per game, while Utah’s frontcourt depth will be tested without Kessler.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Both teams are looking to keep momentum in opposite conferences — the Pistons seeking to extend their winning streak, and the Jazz trying to climb back to .500 before heading to Minnesota on Friday.
