Luka Doncic recorded a triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 130-120 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena.
The win marked Los Angeles’ third straight and improved their record to 5-2. Austin Reaves contributed 26 points and 11 assists, while Jake LaRavia added 25 points off the bench.
Despite missing several shots, Doncic emphasized his team’s ball movement. “I think we could have like 150 points honestly. If me and AR hit some shots, we would probably get 150,” he said during the postgame press conference.
The Lakers never trailed after an 8-0 start and led by 18 points at halftime. Jaxson Hayes scored a season-high 15 points on perfect 7-of-7 shooting, including his first career three-pointer for Los Angeles.
Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. led all scorers with 31 points, while Bam Adebayo and Pelle Larsson each added 17. The Heat fell to 3-3 after shooting 51.2% overall but only 27.3% from three.
Doncic highlighted the team’s comfort in creating offense for each other, noting 33 total assists. “We feel very comfortable. Not just me, not just AR, but I think everybody feels comfortable with this offense,” he said.
He also addressed his shooting struggles, going 1-of-11 from three. “There’s what, 74 or 75 games left. So obviously, there’s going to be off nights. Just trying to get better shots,” Doncic explained.
Marcus Smart’s defensive energy was another key factor. Doncic praised Smart’s hustle and timely plays, calling his impact “unbelievable” for the team.
Bronny James also made an impact off the bench, particularly in the fourth quarter while Smart rested. “He was ready, and that means a lot to us. He played great today,” Doncic said.
With LeBron James sidelined due to sciatica and Deandre Ayton out with back spasms, the Lakers relied on depth and teamwork to secure the win.
Los Angeles shot 50.5% from the field and 32.6% from three, while Miami hit 25-of-36 free throws. The Lakers also outrebounded the Heat 42-41 and forced 15 turnovers.
The Lakers now prepare for a road game in Portland on Monday, aiming to extend their momentum and maintain strong offensive chemistry.
