The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Brooklyn Nets 129-105 on Sunday at Barclays Center, extending the Nets’ losing streak to six games. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the 76ers with 29 points, while Tyrese Maxey added 26.
Oubre made 9 of 11 shots, scoring 22 points in the first quarter, but left the game late in the third after an ankle injury. He returned to the bench with 10 minutes remaining but did not reenter.
Quentin Grimes contributed 22 points off the bench, and VJ Edgecombe added 16 as Philadelphia shot 52% from the field without All-Star Joel Embiid. The 76ers led by as many as 28 points during the game.
Philadelphia opened the third quarter with a Maxey 3-pointer, extending the lead to 76-55. The Nets responded with an 18-7 run, narrowing the gap to 83-73 with just over three minutes remaining in the period. Grimes then scored three consecutive baskets to finish the quarter at 90-78.
The 76ers started the fourth with a 9-0 run, capped by a Maxey floater with 9:39 left, effectively putting the game out of reach. Cam Thomas paced Brooklyn with 29 points, while Michael Porter Jr. and Terance Mann scored 17 apiece.
Brooklyn’s 0-6 start marks their worst opening since the 2015-16 season, when the team lost its first seven games. Philadelphia, meanwhile, improved to 5-1 and continues their three-game road trip on Tuesday at Chicago.
The Nets will conclude their three-game homestand on Monday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
