Jalen Green will remain sidelined when the Phoenix Suns host the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, but signs indicate he’s nearing his season debut, according to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.
The Suns were expecting Green to play a key scoring role this year after acquiring him from the Houston Rockets in the Kevin Durant trade.
However, a strained right hamstring has kept him out of action since training camp. On Saturday, Green took an encouraging step forward by participating in full five-on-five drills.
“It was full-court before practice,” head coach Jordan Ott said. “So that part is good. We’ll have to take a look tonight after this and into (Sunday).”
During his time in Houston, Green proved to be one of the NBA’s most durable young players, appearing in all 82 games in each of the past two seasons.
His current hamstring issue first surfaced early in camp and was aggravated in early October during Phoenix’s preseason trip to China for two games against the Brooklyn Nets.
While there’s still no firm date for his return, Green’s progression to full practice suggests he could be back on the court soon, giving the Suns a much-needed offensive boost.
