The Sacramento Kings have added former NBA forward Jason Maxiell to their coaching ranks.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto, Maxiell has joined the organization as an assistant coach with the Stockton Kings, Sacramento’s G League affiliate.

Maxiell, 42, spent a decade in the NBA after being drafted 26th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2005. He played eight seasons in Detroit before finishing his career with the Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets.

Known for his physicality and defensive toughness, Maxiell appeared in 618 NBA games, averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 50.5 percent from the field. He was part of the Pistons’ core during their mid-2000s playoff runs and became a fan favorite for his energy and effort off the bench.

His move to coaching continues a growing trend of former players joining NBA and G League staffs to develop younger talent. In Stockton, Maxiell is expected to focus on mentoring frontcourt players and reinforcing the physical, team-oriented style that has defined the Kings’ developmental program.

Maxiell last played professionally overseas before transitioning into player development roles.
