Luka Doncic has been officially named a community ambassador for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with several matches of the global football event scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.

“I’m proud to serve as a community ambassador of the World Cup in Los Angeles,” said the 26-year-old Slovenian star.

Calling the tournament a global cultural moment, Doncic expressed his excitement.

“The World Cup is the biggest event in sports, so I’m very excited. I’ve always watched soccer since I was a kid. I watch it now. It’s a part of my life for sure,” he added.

Now representing the Los Angeles Lakers, Doncic spoke about the city’s growing connection to the sport.

“I think LA is a very nice city,” he continued, “We’ve got a lot of culture. Soccer is getting more and more popular in the U.S., especially in LA. So I think the culture right here, because of that, is the perfect city to host it.”

He also reflected on the power of sports to unite people.

“Sports can bring the best in people, especially the World Cup. Everybody gets together to watch the World Cup, to watch the best players play for their country. So, because of that, it inspires not only kids, but everybody. I’m very excited to be the ambassador of it,” concluded Doncic.

FIFA described the Ljubljana native as someone who captures both the spirit of the tournament and the international energy of Los Angeles.

A well-known Real Madrid supporter, Doncic now stands alongside Magic Johnson on the list of community ambassadors promoting the World Cup in LA.

The 2026 tournament will be staged across 16 host cities spread between the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with Los Angeles being one of the key venues.
