After competing in eight seasons in the league, the ex-NBA player Carlos Delfino has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 43.
Delfino played for multiple NBA teams, such as the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, and Houston Rockets.
In speaking about an interview with Doble Doble on YouTube, the former Rockets player said that his career is over after 27 years as a professional, spanning Europe and the NBA.
“The moment came that I thought would never come — when I started making excuses not to train and didn’t feel like going,” Delfino told Doble Doble. ”That’s when I said, ‘It’s time.’ I actually felt good about it because I went through a lot of injuries and spent four years without playing. Now I got to choose when to stop.”
He last played for Sella Cento in the Serie A2, the second division of the Italian basketball league.
The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 10.6 points, 3.3 boards, and two assists per game during his 67-game stint with the Houston Rockets in the 2012-2013 season.
Aside from the professional leagues, Delfino also competed for his national team, Argentina, which won an Olympic gold medal in 2004 alongside Manu Ginobili, Luis Scola, and Fabricio Oberto. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
