Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry spoke openly during the 2025 Media Day about the team’s evolving roster and his personal approach to the new season.
He emphasized the importance of keeping discussions among leaders grounded and focusing on basketball despite uncertainties surrounding Jonathan Kuminga’s contract situation. “Don’t make it more than what it is other than, you know, a team trying to figure the situation in front of us,” Curry said.
On managing roster expectations, Curry praised the early presence of Jimmy Butler, which he said allows the team to carry momentum from last season into training camp.
He also addressed the challenge of balancing basketball and business, particularly regarding Kuminga’s contract situation, emphasizing trust in his teammates rather than external narratives. “I only listen to my teammate. I don’t listen to agents or anybody who’s speaking on behalf,” Curry said.
Curry discussed his offseason conditioning and longevity in the NBA. He explained how his training has shifted to a more data-driven approach, focusing 60% off-court and 40% on-court to optimize performance and prevent injury. “It’s evolved based on trying to be more efficient with the work and more intentional about how each day is designed,” he said.
Looking back at the previous season, Curry acknowledged the physical and mental demands of an 82-game schedule, particularly for veteran players. He stressed the importance of controlling the team’s energy and pacing to maintain consistency throughout the season.
Curry also touched on his career milestones, including his historic achievements in scoring, three-pointers, and All-Star selections. He remains motivated to compete at a high level while mentoring younger players on the roster.
