Real Madrid closed out their run at the EncestaRias tournament in Pontevedra with a hard-fought but ultimately steady 87-80 win over Baskonia in the third-place game.
What began as a sluggish first half for Los Blancos transformed after the break, as Sergio Scariolo’s squad tightened up defensively and spread the scoring responsibilities across the roster.
Six Madrid players finished in double figures, showcasing the team’s depth even with multiple absences. Andres Feliz turned in one of his most complete preseason outings, registering 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Gabriele Procida matched him with 14 points of his own, while Trey Lyles chipped in 13. Chuma Okeke impressed with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, helping Madrid establish control on the glass.
The win came despite Sergio Scariolo being without several regular contributors, including Alberto Abalde, Gabriel Deck, Mario Hezonja, and Theo Maledon.
On the opposite side, Paolo Galbiati’s Baskonia were even more shorthanded, suiting up just 10 players as Mamadi Diakite, Markus Howard, Rodions Kurucs, and Tadas Sedekerskis sat out.
Baskonia still made things interesting late. Clement Frisch poured in a game-high 20 points, with eight of them coming in the fourth quarter.
His scoring surge trimmed Madrid’s advantage to just six with a little over two minutes left, but the comeback fell short as Real Madrid executed down the stretch.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Valencia claimed the title with a commanding 77-55 win over Rio Breogan in the final.
Matt Costello led the way with 12 points, while a balanced offensive showing allowed Valencia to cruise despite missing Brancou Badio, Ethan Happ, Xabier Lopez-Arostegui, Jean Montero, and Nate Sestina.
Now, attention shifts to official competitions. The Supercopa Endesa tips off next weekend, with Real Madrid set to meet La Laguna Tenerife in the semifinals, while Valencia takes on host Unicaja.
Baskonia, meanwhile, will continue their preseason preparations before opening their EuroLeague campaign at home against Olympiacos on September 30.
