The Boston Celtics’ backcourt rotation appears fairly settled, anchored by Payton Pritchard, Derrick White, and Anfernee Simons.
Still, Brian Robb of Mass Live points out that if any of these primary guards were to miss time, there’s a potential sleeper who could step up: Baylor Scheierman.
Toward the end of last season, Scheierman impressed the coaching staff and front office with his ability to run the pick-and-roll and serve as a reliable playmaker, demonstrating a versatility that could be crucial for a bench role.
Robb adds that the Celtics will be closely monitoring his progress this season, looking for more consistency and effectiveness from him if he is given meaningful minutes.
Scheierman played 31 games during the 2024–25 NBA regular season. He averaged 3.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
His field goal percentage stood at 35.5%, with a three-point shooting percentage of 31.7% and a free throw percentage of 75.0%. Scheierman averaged 12.4 minutes of playtime per game
