The league will implement a new rule this upcoming season.

The NBA enacts a new change, such that the unsuccessful end-of-period attempts will not be recorded as a player’s missed field-goal attempt, but rather for the team. This refers to the long heaves or shots that will no longer affect player’s percentages, per Shams Charania on X.

With this implementation, there would be expectations for players to take even more long-range shots, which was behind the motivation of the change.

In addition, the Competition Committee supports the adjustments, as the league was trying it the whole time during the Summer League in July.
