Victor Wembanyama is taking another step to strengthen the bond between the San Antonio Spurs and their fanbase as the new season approaches.

The 21-year-old French sensation is eager to see a transformed Frost Bank Center atmosphere, one driven by a new wave of dedicated supporters.

On Tuesday, the Spurs announced the launch of a special project: tryouts for fans to join a new organized supporters’ section, with Wembanyama himself expected to be present at the event on Sunday.

Registration has already opened for those who want to be part of what the franchise is calling “the loudest, proudest, and most relentless crew” in the building.

“It’s been an idea. And now it’s a project,” Wembanyama explained, underlining that this initiative had been in his mind for some time. His vision is to recreate the type of passionate atmosphere he has seen in arenas across Europe and beyond.

The towering Spurs center believes this will not just be about noise – it will be about impact.

“If this group of ultras reaches its full potential, I have no doubt that it’s going to help us win games in the future for sure,” he noted, before emphasizing the importance of home games.

“The 41 regular season games at home this season, that’s 41 opportunities for them to push in the fourth quarter and give us that extra energy and that second wind that can give us the win.”

The supporters’ section is expected to take shape with chants, songs, and coordinated efforts to lift the team during key stretches of games. Once the tryouts and selection process are complete, the group will be given an official name and identity, symbolizing their role as an extension of the Spurs’ competitive drive.

For Wembanyama, this marks a renewed sense of anticipation after a difficult previous campaign. The former No. 1 pick has now been medically cleared ahead of training camp and the upcoming 2025-26 season.

His 2024-25 journey ended abruptly due to a season-ending illness, preventing him not only from completing his first full NBA season but also from representing France at EuroBasket 2025.

Still, his impact last season was undeniable: in 46 appearances, he averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game, proving why he is already one of the league’s brightest stars.

With his health back on track and a vision to rally Spurs fans like never before, Wembanyama is setting the stage for a fresh chapter in San Antonio.
