Tennessee women’s basketball player Ruby Whitehorn has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors in exchange for judicial diversion following a domestic incident last month.

Originally facing felony charges of aggravated burglary and domestic assault, those were dismissed by a judge Friday. She instead pleaded guilty to aggravated trespassing and vandalism.

“As a result of a lot of hard work and investigation, we were able to enter into a favorable plea agreement,” Whitehorn’s attorney, Gregory Isaacs, said. “Ms. Whitehorn is an excellent student-athlete and intends to focus her attention on athletics and academics at the University of Tennessee.”

Court records show the incident began when the victim saw Whitehorn in a parking lot and went outside after hearing glass break. The victim alleged Whitehorn kicked in the front door and chased her upstairs.

The basketball player claimed the victim attacked her first while she tried to leave and that she was only defending herself and retrieving her phone.

Whitehorn was suspended indefinitely after the arrest; Tennessee has not clarified if that suspension remains. Isaacs said completing anger management classes and avoiding future offenses could allow Whitehorn to have her record expunged after a year.

Going into her senior season, Whitehorn averaged 11.6 points per game last year, her second with the Volunteers after transferring from Clemson.
