Dennis Schroder has made his expectations for EuroBasket 2025 clear, stating that Germany’s national team is aiming for nothing less than the championship.

In an interview with Stern, the Sacramento Kings guard said, “We will win the title. If I weren’t convinced of that, I wouldn’t play in the tournament and would rather spend my time in Braunschweig.”

EuroBasket 2025 tips off on August 27 across Finland, Latvia, Poland, and Cyprus, with Germany set to compete in Group B in Tampere, Finland. Schroeder and his teammates will face Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Montenegro, and Great Britain in the group stage.

Germany enters the tournament as the reigning FIBA World Cup champions, having secured the gold medal in 2023. The team also earned a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2022, followed by a fourth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Schroder has been a central figure in Germany’s recent rise on the international stage. The veteran point guard guided the team with leadership and playmaking during their World Cup run, and his return for EuroBasket adds stability to a roster that blends experience with emerging talent.

The 31-year-old is coming off a 2024-25 NBA season where he split time with the Nets, Warriors, and Pistons before joining the Kings. Across 75 games, he averaged 13.1 points and 5.4 assists per contest, including a strong stretch in Brooklyn where he posted 18.4 points per game.

Germany’s path in Group B will be challenging. Lithuania brings size and depth, Finland will have home-court advantage, and Sweden and Montenegro add unpredictability. The top four teams from the group advance to the knockout stage in Riga, Latvia.

Germany last captured the EuroBasket title in 1993, led by Christian Welp. Since then, the closest they have come was a silver medal in 2005 and their bronze finish three years ago.

The team opens its campaign on August 27 against Montenegro, followed by a matchup with Sweden on August 29. A key showdown against Lithuania is set for August 30, while the group finale against host Finland on September 3 could determine seeding for the knockout stage.
