Former NBA champion Tyson Chandler praised Luka Doncic’s unique playmaking ability, comparing the legendary Los Angeles Lakers guard to Magic Johnson.

Chandler, now a development coach, worked with Doncic during his Dallas Mavericks years and highlighted his impact both in practice and games.

“Luka was one of the best players I’ve ever seen on the court and in practice,” Chandler told Eurohoops. He added that Doncic earned the nickname “Luka Magic” because his creativity and vision reminded him of a European version of Johnson.

Chandler noted that it is rare for a player to impress peers during practice, but Doncic consistently did so. The veteran center emphasized that Doncic’s skill set stood out even among elite professionals.

Doncic’s production has supported those claims since entering the league in 2018. He won Rookie of the Year, earned five All-Star selections, and has averaged 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game across his career.

In the 2023–24 season with Dallas, Doncic posted 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game, his best statistical year.
After a midseason trade to the Lakers in 2024–25, he continued to average over 28 points while maintaining strong efficiency.

His playoff résumé has also been significant, with averages of 30.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists through 55 postseason games. In the 2024 playoffs, he led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals before moving to Los Angeles, where he has continued producing at a high level.
