Cavaliers hire Eli Kell-Abrams as Cleveland Charge head coach

The Cleveland Cavaliers are making a change in their developmental system, bringing in Eli Kell-Abrams as the new head coach of their G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge.

NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Kell-Abrams has agreed to take over the Charge after spending the past two seasons as a video coordinator with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Before his time in Portland, he held positions with both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat, gaining experience across multiple player development and operations roles.

The Charge play a key role in providing minutes for young prospects while also preparing players on two-way contracts for NBA opportunities.

For Kell-Abrams, the promotion represents his first head coaching job at the professional level. His background in scouting, film study, and player development has been a foundation for his rise within NBA circles.

Cleveland has used the Charge to sharpen skills of young players such as Isaiah Mobley and Emoni Bates, while also keeping rostered Cavaliers engaged with extended playing time.
