Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II recently underwent a minor surgical procedure to remove bone spurs from his right foot.
Initially placed in a protective boot during the early stages of recovery, Lively is progressing well and is expected to be fully available by the time training camp begins.
The 7-footer is coming off his second NBA season, during which he appeared in 36 games for Dallas. Despite missing a significant portion of the year due to a stress fracture in his right ankle, Lively made a strong impact when on the court.
He averaged 8.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks in just over 23 minutes per game, showcasing his value as an energetic rim protector and developing playmaker.
Even with the missed time, Lively remains a key part of the Mavericks’ frontcourt plans. Dallas now boasts one of the league’s most formidable center rotations, with Lively joined by veteran star Anthony Davis and shot-blocking specialist Daniel Gafford.
The trio gives the Mavericks depth, size, and versatility at the five spot – a position that’s become increasingly vital in their push to return to championship contention.
