Kevin Durant addressed the recent trade that sent him from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets just days before the 2025 NBA Draft.

When asked about the reaction of Suns fans, Durant said, “I mean, they wanted me to go. I’m glad they got what they wanted and I got what I wanted, so good luck to them.”

The deal sent Durant to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks. Durant, 36, has been a major scorer this season, averaging 26.6 points across 75 games.

Houston finished second in the Western Conference with a 52–30 record. The Rockets add Durant to a roster that includes Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Fred VanVleet. This move gives Houston one of the most balanced teams in the conference, boosting their title chances.

For Phoenix, the trade marks a shift after a disappointing 36–46 season. The Suns finished 11th in the West and missed the playoffs. They now look to build around Jalen Green, a 23-year-old scorer, alongside Devin Booker and defensive wing Dillon Brooks.

The Suns’ haul of three first-round picks and eight second-rounders adds significant flexibility for future trades or roster moves. Phoenix reportedly also negotiated with Miami but favored Houston’s offer, which combined youth and immediate contributors.

Durant had shown interest in joining the San Antonio Spurs, but the team was unwilling to part with key young players. Ultimately, Phoenix found a trade partner in Houston that aligned with their short- and long-term goals.

Durant remains under contract for the 2025-26 season with a salary of $54.7 million. The Rockets, aiming for a deep playoff run, now have a proven superstar added to their core.
