San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has taken an unconventional and deeply focused approach to his offseason training.

Following a sophomore year that ended prematurely due to a blood clot issue, the 7-foot-4 phenom sought out a unique path for growth, both physical and mental.

Instead of opting for traditional NBA summer workouts, Wembanyama traveled to China, where he spent two weeks training with monks at the legendary Shaolin Temple.

The experience, which blended discipline, martial arts, and meditative practices, pushed Wembanyama far outside of his comfort zone.

Appearing on an episode of “The Shop” alongside icons like LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Kai Cenat, the 21-year-old shared what motivated him to take this unusual route.

“It was a great experience,” Wembanyama said. “My goal going there was putting my body through things that it’s not used to doing and allowing my range of movement and strength. This was probably as very different as possible from what I’m used to doing.”

His time at the Shaolin Temple underscores Wembanyama’s commitment to maximizing his physical capabilities and longevity, especially as he prepares to return stronger for the 2025–26 NBA season.

The blend of Eastern philosophy and rigorous physical discipline seems to align with his broader goals of becoming one of the league’s most durable and dynamic players.
