Kevin Durant has publicly rejected recent accusations that the Phoenix Suns’ 2024–25 season was marred by physical altercations in the locker room.

The claim was made by former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins on Run It Back, where he suggested Suns players engaged in fights behind the scenes during a disappointing campaign.

Cousins, who has not played in the NBA since the 2021–22 season, did not specify dates, players, or incidents during his claim.

Durant responded to the allegation directly on social media, calling it “bullsh*t” in a post on X and firmly stating that “we NEVER got close to this.”

Cousins replied to Durant’s denial by insisting his information came from one of Durant’s teammates, though he did not name anyone or provide additional details.

“The source was one of your teammates killa,” Cousins wrote. “I wasn’t referring to you!”

Durant maintained his stance, replying, “All I’m saying is your source is lying,” and adding that he harbored no animosity toward Cousins or anyone else.

Durant’s denial comes amid a turbulent offseason for Phoenix, which missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020 after finishing 11th in the West at 36–46.

The Suns began the year with expectations of contention, led by the trio of Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, but failed to establish consistent chemistry or defensive identity.

Reports throughout the season hinted at internal discord, particularly during a 3–10 stretch in February and a failed pursuit of Jimmy Butler, but no credible evidence of physical altercations had surfaced before Cousins’ comment.

Phoenix fired head coach Mike Budenholzer on April 14 after just one season, then hired Jordan Ott from Cleveland’s coaching staff to lead the franchise into 2025–26.

Durant, who averaged 26.6 points across 75 games last season, remains under contract for one more year at $54.7 million. Trade speculation around the forward has intensified, with the Rockets, Heat, and Timberwolves emerging as interested teams.

The Suns have made it clear they will not move Durant without receiving high-level talent in return.

Durant has privately expressed interest in the San Antonio Spurs, but the team has shown reluctance to part with young players like Stephon Castle or their No. 2 overall pick.
