There’s a compelling case for the New York Knicks to stick with their current core for the 2025/26 season, making only minor adjustments around the roster, writes Chris Mannix in a column for SI.com.

Mannix highlights the importance of continuity in today’s NBA, noting that allowing the team’s core group another year together could pay dividends after significant roster changes ahead of the next campaign.

“Continuity is a key to success in today’s NBA,” Mannix observes, suggesting that the Knicks might benefit from the current roster gaining further experience and chemistry.

However, the Knicks’ front office appears open to all possibilities this offseason. ESPN’s Shams Charania shared on Monday’s SportsCenter that internal discussions are already underway to assess the roster and potential changes.

“I’m told the Knicks have internal meetings (scheduled) this week to evaluate everything from the roster (to) different changes they could make around everything, but especially the roster,” Charania reported.

He emphasized that Knicks president Leon Rose has been aggressive in building the team, bringing in players like OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

“I expect him to be just as aggressive this offseason, whether it’s a landmark player that you could bring in there or definitely depth on that bench,” Charania added.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau also recognizes the importance of the upcoming offseason.

“He called it a very important offseason coming up,” Charania said, noting the team’s recent success.

“This is a team that has won 50-plus games in consecutive seasons for the first time since the early ’90s. Four of his five seasons as head coach, they’ve made it to the playoffs, so it’s been a successful run.”

Thibodeau, star guard Jalen Brunson, and the front office remain aligned and supportive of each other as the team looks to maintain its upward trajectory.

“That front office is fully supportive of Tom Thibodeau as well. But I do expect them to be very active and aggressive on the roster,” Charania emphasized.

With the Knicks having traded significant draft assets last offseason to acquire Bridges and Towns, the club’s flexibility in trades is somewhat limited.

Any major move this summer would likely require a substantial player package in return rather than relying on draft picks.

As the Knicks prepare for a pivotal offseason, the question remains whether they will build around the existing nucleus or seize an opportunity to make a bold splash that could elevate the team to championship contention.
